Hi! I'm Ryan Kueh, an author and researcher based in Singapore

As Singaporean introductions go — I hold a master’s degree from Tsinghua University under the Schwarzman Scholars programme and completed my bachelor’s at Yale–NUS College, where I read Politics, Philosophy, Economics (PPE) and History then. 

I enjoy dabbling in a wide variety of research areas. Primarily, my key focus is on consumption culture and history, with a secondary interest in international affairs and politics. My biggest project (and pride) thus far is authoring Straits Times bestselling book From Streets to Stalls: The History and Evolution of Hawking and Hawker Centres in Singapore.

For my next passion project, I am researching the evolution of local Singaporean Chinese cuisine. Specifically, I am looking to uncover why and how local delicacies have evolved vis-à-vis their Chinese origins, unpacking the idiosyncrasies and uniqueness of our food culture.

In the day from "9 to 5" (probably longer, much to the chagrin of my fiancée), I am an Associate Consultant at Bain & Company working on government projects.

On my off days, you can catch me kopi hopping somewhere. Occasionally, I drink and write about wine. I am also a great admirer of Borat Sagdiyev, Kazakhstan's No. 4 news reporter.
