About Me
About Me
Hi! I'm Ryan Kueh, a Singapore-based author and researcher. My work explores what food, culture, and everyday life reveal about Singapore's history, identity, and governance: the everyday politics of what we eat and why.
My bestselling From Streets to Stalls (2024) traces the history and evolution of hawking and hawker centres in Singapore. I am also the co-editor of Ten Year Series: The Singaporean Examination (2025), an SG60 anthology of essays from Singaporeans everywhere.
A third book is currently underway — on contemporary politics, economics, and sociology of hawker culture and Nanyang Chinese food in Singapore today.
I hold a master's degree from Tsinghua University as a Schwarzman Scholar, and completed my bachelor's at Yale–NUS College reading Politics, Philosophy, Economics (PPE) and History.
In the day from "9 to 5" (probably longer, much to the chagrin of my wife), I work at Bain & Company, focusing on public sector and healthcare projects. On my off days, you can catch me kopi hopping somewhere.
